“Eco mobility in a smart green city”
Climate obviously depends on society. These two layers on earth are sometimes hard to harmonize. People, the way they move in a consumers economy, with a lot of CO2 in the processes, forget to care long term about their well-being, about nature’s gifts that we consciously put away more and more in the urban context. Starting our challenge from the need to minimize the pollution generated by traffic, we think about eco-friendly alternatives but in the same time we definitely need to think about the green part of the city life, not only as the general quota of 26 sqm/ person, but also to have it sustainable, not farther than 10 minutes walking from any apartment or home. We need nature back in the city, we need it active and sustainable and we need it integrated with all other urban aspects, as a top priority.
Bucharest, has a fantastic gift and potential – 37% of the city area, are parks, and, as there is a huge lack of integration, they are used only 15% of the time : week-end daytime. One of the challenges will be to find ways to add value, to manage traffic and transport, and transform our city form crowded and polluted, to a SPA. Changing the way we feel, bringing the smiles back, having a great time in public spaces.
Our City needs development policies and strategies complementary to the ones that already exist, using better models, improvement of accessibility and integration of various ways of transportation, all that taking into account the climate implications over a longer period of time. The achievement will be an efficient, safe and sustainable transportation system which will encourage social, economic and territorial development and ensure a better quality of life.
ECO – most of the times is about attitude, recycling, waste management, in fact EDUCATION in everything we do.
MOBILITY – definitely we know what it is, but most probably we need to challenge the term, to re-think our ways, or priorities, our climate impact considering all aspects of mobility starting from time and fuel.
SMART – smart city start with smart leaders and smart society.
GREEN – is definitely our biggest need in the CITY, as we need more nature in our life.

EVENT SUMMARY
The Climate-KIC Climathon is a global 24-hour climate change event which will take place simultaneously in major cities around the world on 28 October 2016. In Bucharest, the event takes place from 27 October – 19.00 until 28 October – 19.00 and will focus on solving Eco Mobility in a Smart Green City, considering as many major collateral layers. It is being brought to Romania by CCIAT and locally organised by #better at Premier Palace Hotel & SPA, Ghencea blvd.
THE JURY
The best idea will be selected by a jury consisting in people involved in EDUCATION, PROFESIONAL ASSOCIATIONS, BUSINESS, NGOs, hopefully CITYHALL and GOVERNMENT.
THE FOLLOW UP
Climate-KIC’s Climathon brings together the challenges of the world’s cities with the people who have the passion and ability to solve them. Participants gather for 24 hours to engage in a climate-related problem solving workshop.
City citizens around the world will get to take direct climate action in their own cities by coming up with innovative solutions to local climate change problems.
