The year 2021 has been a challenging one for the energy sector, said George Niculescu, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy. In the inaugural speech of the IX-th edition of the Energynomics Awards, he stressed that the ministry has done everything possible to help the population and companies get through this crisis period, and for the market to return to normal in 2022. At the same time, the Ministry of Energy supports investments in new renewable energy, after the sector has stagnated in recent years, following the suspension of the 2013 support scheme, he added.
“We are trying to regain the confidence of investors in this sector. There are a number of measures and funds available to them to re-open their appetite for such investments. In the process of energy transition, we are in the process of decarbonizing the economy in general and the national energy system, but without a doubt, the biggest challenge this year comes in terms of rising electricity and gas prices on all the markets in Europe, a process that did not spare our country either,” said George Niculescu.

The Ministry of Energy tried to support consumers by adopting a series of measures through Ordinance 118, which was amended in the Parliament, with an extension of the series of compensations for several categories of economic agents. The measure is taken for a limited period of time, so that the market can return to normal. “We are trying to protect the final consumers, whether they are domestic consumers or economic agents, by granting a series of compensations,” he added.
