The Romanian Energy Center Association organizes the 9th edition of the Romanian Energy Day conference, on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, in a video-conference system. With the confirmed participation of Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, the event is one of the main platforms for debate and regional cooperation between the energy industry in Romania and South-Eastern Europe and policy makers in Brussels.

Entitled “The European Green Pact as the European Union’s main recovery mechanism and development strategy”, this year’s conference is built around the post-2020 European energy sector development framework, financial and infrastructure challenges, and Romanian energy industry prospects on the transition to a low-carbon economy, all with the aim of providing clean and accessible energy for future generations.

European Union is reinventing itself by embarking in its most ambitious project since its inception. The goal to become the first carbon neutral continent is taking on uncharted territories and will definitely test the cohesion of its member states. From uniting political elites towards common goals, to revolutionize the technical capabilities and strengthen the social cohesion and acceptance, the European Green Deal is in perfect symbiosis with the Energy Union project. Being a project of utmost importance post BREXIT, the European Green Deal will reaffirm Europe’s relevance in the world while bridging the gap with the political structures at the local level.

Moreover, the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has seriously tested the global capacity to deal with major emergencies. The economic impact is more severe than the effects of the last financial crisis, hence the budgets of member states have been seriously tested.

The energy industry will emerge significantly changed from the SARS-CoV-2 crisis. Three key pillars are increasingly becoming of salience for companies’ resilience and economic competitiveness, affordability and ultimately for security of supply, (1) digital technologies, (2) smart networks and (3) clean generation technology (as directly as possible) linked with consumers. These create the premises for clean, available and affordable energy for the next generation.

Thus, the conference will try to answer the questions if the European Ecological Pact project is on schedule, how are the financial challenges of the energy infrastructure of the future addressed and what is Romania’s capacity to integrate in the national policies of the European energy and climate packages?
