Hidroelectrica proposes investment in safeguard measures at Iron Gates I

The management at Hidroelectrica proposes to the shareholders to approve an investment plan of 11.7 million euros, VAT included, dedicated to realization of additional protection measures at Iron Gate I. After its launching, the project will be completed in four years, specifies the power company.

A document published by Hidroelectrica shows that since 2007 were noticed an advancement of erosion in the concrete body of the dam sink, operated for 43 years.

The proposed measures of protection are part of a larger project; Serbia realized the feasibility study in 2011 for fulfilling their obligations. The investments proposals of Hidroelectrica to its shareholders concern strictly the protection obligations of Romania.

The proceedings involve, among others, the cleaning and removal of the deposited material and deploying it from the degraded area, preparing the degraded concrete surfaces from the spur sink till a clean concrete, implementation of anchor link between old concrete and new and underwater concreting the prepared segments.

“Concerning the strategic importance of SHEN Iron Gates I and the width of degradation, it is observed the danger for this asset, and the need to carry out the proposed remedial work fully in all spillways fields urgently”, shows a background note on this investment.
