Environmental, waste and air quality projects have a budget of 654 million euros

The Ministry of European Funds (MFE) as Managing Authority for the Large Infrastructure Operational Program (POIM) 2014-2020, released the guides for applicants in the following sectors: waste, biodiversity, risk management and air quality, with a total budget of 654 milion euros, representing 5.5% of the total allocation for the program, which totals 11.98 billion euros, according to a press release from the institution. The eligible applicants are the Intercommunitary Development Associations, established at county level (the councils) and the Bucharest City Hall.

Through this program there will be financed: phased projects for the development of integrated waste management systems at county level (approved and launched between 2007-2013 under POS environment but not finished until the end of 2015), amounting to about 282 million euros; new projects regarding the development of integrated waste management systems at county level for those counties that failed to obtain financing between 2007-2013, and to build the necessary infrastructure for waste management in the municipality of Bucharest – worth about 70 million euros.

The types of projects that can be financed for the drafting / revising management plans for protected areas, and the implementation of protection and conservation measures of the protected natural areas set out in the approved management plans. The budget of is over 240 million euros, the eligible applicants being Custodians or managers of the protected natural areas, namely research institutes, universities, NGOs, government authorities and local and other structures under the coordination or subordination of the central or local authorities. Of the total allocation, about 66 million euros are available for ITI Delta Dunarii.

The guide for the air quality sector, targets the air quality monitoring at national level (specific objective 4.2), the budget is approximately 15 million euros and the eligible applicant is the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests (MMAPI). Investments in this area aim to improve the national system of evaluation and monitoring air quality, increase capacity to forecast on short and medium term, namely the creation of premises for communication and protecting the population. The type is based on a list of priority or preidentified projects. The projects for this sector can be submitted during the period April 25th, 2016 – December 31st, 2018.
