OMV Petrom has started works on the new Petrobrazi refinery’s poly-fuel unit. The new unit will allow conversion of LPG components into gasoline and middle distillates using a catalytic process. The company has announced investments of approximately 60 million euro for the construction of the new plant.
In the first phase, the foundations will be poured; for these, about 3,000 cubic meters of concrete and 335 tons of iron-concrete will be used.
“The new poly-fuel unit is an ambitious project whereby state-of-the-art refining and petrochemicals technologies will also be available in Romania. The project follows the plan and we hope that the new unit will be operational at the beginning of 2019,” says Neil Anthony Morgan, OMV Petrom Director, responsible for Downstream Oil.
The poly-fuel unit will allow some of the refinery’s LPG component production, of up to 50,000 tons, to be converted into gasoline and middle distillates. The project involves the construction of three main reactors, multiple adsorbents, columns and pumps.
