The Cluj-Napoca Local Council meeting on Wednesday, December 19, will discuss a draft decision on the building 36 new e-car charging stations. According to Ziua de Cluj, the planned investment amounts to 7.7 million lei.

At the beginning of November, two e-car charging stations were inaugurated, located in the city hall’s parking lot, and in the parking lot at St. Michael’s Church. The local councilors decided that charging is free of charge; the costs are borne by the local budget and are part of the City Hall’s plan to encourage the purchase of clean vehicles.

The three locations where the new charging stations will be installed are:

• Grigorescu (1 Decembrie 1918) – 6 existing e-chargers – other 18 are necessary (15 slow, 3 fast). Investment: 3.8 million lei
• Mărăști (Aurel Vlaicu) – 6 existing e-chargers – other 6 are necessary (5 slow, 1 fast). Investment: 1.3 million lei
• Gheorgheni – 2 existing e-chargers – other 12 are necessary (10 slow, 2 fast). Investment: 2.6 million lei

The Public Transport Company (CTP) Cluj-Napoca introduced 11 electric buses this year, which will be complemented with another 12, by the end pf the year. The next year the total number of e-buses will reach 40. Cluj-Napoca is the first city in Romania on the streets of which run electric buses for public transportation. This is why the City Hall has won the Energy Efficiency Award at the 2018 energynomics Awards Gala.

The buses in Cluj-Napoca were purchased by the municipality with the help of Swiss funds, and the vehicles to be introduced are bought with funds from the European Union. Buses are priced between 600,000 and 1 million euros.
