The Competition Council will launch in public debate, this month, the first version of the recommendations for the fuel market, and the fuel price monitor will be operational by the end of June, said Competition Council President Bogdan Chiriţoiu.

„In a few weeks, in April, we come out with the first variant of our recommendations on the fuel market, which will be publicly debated. We’ll see what reactions we receive and at the end when we have an opinion we will forward it to the Government and we will support it to translate as much as possible from our recommendations.The price monitor will be functional by the end of June, we have money in the budget and the acquisitions are made, so the project will be implemented by the end of June,” said Bogdan Chiriţoiu, according to Agerpres.

He said Romania has some of the lowest prices in the European Union (EU) at the fuel pump, and this is because we pay lower taxes than in the EU. The head of the competition authority also argues that prices will vary depending on the barrel’s quotation, and if the barrel price is over USD 60, the impact will be inevitable.
