The energy sector of Europe is currently in a deep changing process. The main drivers of this change come from the need to develop a competitive European economy in external terms, able to compete with the great traditional economies and also with those found in permanent growth, with little dependence on foreign energy sources and low environmental impact. Such concerns have been among the top priorities in the European agenda in the last decade and are nationally transposed into the member states’ policies, since energy is the driver of economic operation and development.
Transelectrica is a signatory of the call for action addressed by the Transmission and System Operators, members of ENTSO-E, to the European decision makers with respect to the central role played by the 42 European TSO-s to provide the balanced and secure operation of the electricity transmission system in Europe.
Such statement is a common call to reinforce cooperation, an inherent trait of transmission system operators in view of better explaining their central role for the European system and in expediting the development necessary for interconnected electricity networks.
Electricity networks play a crucial role in reaching the European goals, especially with respect to the security of consumers’ supply, to providing the joint energy market and integrate renewable sources while the support of national authorities and of the society’s is deemed as permanent partnership between these and the European transmission system operators.
“As far as Romania is concerned, Transelectrica plays a pivotal role in reaching the energy policy commitments assumed under the European Union’s policies. The ever-increasing integration of renewable energy sources and the greater interconnection with the neighbors of our national power system represent country-assumed objectives where Transelectrica’s contribution is crucial. To cope with such major challenges while carrying out its assignments Transelectrica is developing its technical and operational capacity in the pace required by the development of the European sector. To reach this target Transelectrica is internally performing a wide-scale refurbishment and upgrade of electric power installations, with great investments and human resource efforts. We are also taking into account new investments which, when implemented, will improve the transmission grid’s reliability, the security of supply and the operational safety of the overall national power system”, said Marius Carasol, chairman of Transelectrica’s Directorate.
The legislative package IV “Clean energy for all Europeans” essentially aims at establishing a pan-European energy union with new rules and obligations of energy efficiency, renewable source integration, and electricity market organization as well as governance rules for the energy union.
“Climatic changes, the higher intensity and duration of extreme meteorological phenomena impacting the availability of electricity sources, the massive integration of renewable sources with volatile generation and the significant societal pressure over the traditional generating sources are major European challenges. We need to find the best solutions in order to provide sustainable transition to a low-carbon economy. Such solutions should be coordinated in all Europe taking into account the continental system is under interconnected operation and aims at further increasing the interconnection, thus pointing out increasingly the super-national side of electricity provision for society’s needs”, also said Marius Carasol.
CNTEE Transelectrica SA has been an ENTSO-E member since establishment and actively participated both in the organisation’s decision-making structures and working groups.
