The Minister of Energy reiterated the idea of building a single nuclear reactor in Cernavoda, in case the deal with the Chinese side is not finalized. Initially, a similar statement was made by the Secretary of State Doru Vișan, at a conference in early June.

“We have agreed with Chinese investors to speed up the talks. We are in the process of negotiating the intergovernmental agreement between Romania and China. This investment should not be made anyway. We must pay a normal price, not an exaggerated one. We are in the negotiation phase. These can have positive or negative results … If we do not have positive results, then the backup solution is that Romania will build a single reactor through Nuclearelectrica. Because we started to promote the Contract for Differences”, stated the Minister of Energy, Anton Anton, quoted by e-nergia.ro.

“From my point of view, the nuclear power is growing. Either in the current version or in another approach – any of which is beneficial – we must further develop at least one or two nuclear capacities in Romania ….

The materialization of the negotiation (with the Chinese at CGN) if done, will be extraordinary. If it does not materialize, there are studies … and there will be at least one capacity,” Visan said. As for the CGN project, he said: “If we create an investment framework, I do not think it will not be done. I wanted to emphasize the need to further promote nuclear energy in Romania, that the basic energy we need.”
