Hungary recorded, during the period April-June 2019, compared with the previous quarter, the most significant advance of the economy in the European Union, followed closely by Romania, an estimate published by the European Bureau for Statistics (Eurostat) shows on Friday.
In both the European Union and the euro area, the Gross Domestic Product increased by 0.2% in the second quarter (Q2) of this year, compared to the previous quarter. In the first quarter of 2019, compared to the last quarter of 2018, GDP increased by 0.4% in the euro area and by 0.5% in the European Union.
Almost all EU countries reported GDP growth during April-June 2019, and the most significant advance was in Hungary (1.1%), Romania (1%), Bulgaria, Denmark Greece, Cyprus, Lithuania and Poland (all with an increase of 0.8%). The only countries where GDP fell from quarter to quarter were the United Kingdom (minus 0.2%), as well as Germany and Sweden (minus 0.1%). Italy’s economy has been stagnant, according to Agerpres.
