The possibility that Ukraine and Gazprom will not reach an agreement to extend the transit contract, which expires at the end of this year, has determined the Romanian companies to store a record level of gas up to 30 TWh, the previous record being recorded on November 11, 2013, when an amount of 27.825 TWh was deposited. However, in case of stopping Russian gas transit through Ukraine, Romania will have a gas deficit of at least 8.5 TWh, even if it enters winter with full deposits, according to profit.ro.
The 2013 record was broken, according to data from Gas Storage Europe (GSE – the association of storage system operators in Europe) on September 19, when in the Romanian warehouses there was an amount of 27.853 TWh. In the meantime, more than 2.15 TWh have been injected into deposits, so on Monday, October 7th, the deposited quantity had exceeded 30 TWh, the maximum storage capacity since 2013.
