Enel X, the Enel Group’s advanced energy services business line, will be the official smart charging supplier of the new ETCR championship, which will be the world’s first ever multi-brand electric touring car championship, launched by sport consulting company WSC. Starting from March 2020, Enel X will provide fast charging stations to be installed along the ETCR championship’s racing circuits.
“By partnering with ETCR, we are strengthening our technological leadership in the international motorsport world, confirming our ability to design innovative solutions that can fully adapt to the diverse needs of racing championships,” said Francesco Venturini, Head of Enel X. “Our collaborations within the world of electric motorsports allow us to develop and test new solutions for electric racing vehicles that can then be replicated on the street for everyday use, with the aim to boost technological innovation in electric mobility and to improve the overall electric vehicle experience.”
“Enel X is a leading company in the development of strategies and products for sustainable mobility worldwide. Having secured their support for the supply of chargers tailored to ETCR cars makes us really proud,” said WSC president Marcello Lotti. “The experience they have already gained through their involvement in other motorsport categories speaks for itself and we are very much looking forward to establishing a long and successful collaboration with them.”
This initiative adds to the partnerships that Enel X already has in place with the fully-electric single-seater racing series FIA Formula E and fully-electric motorcycle circuit championship MotoE. The collaboration with ETCR reinforces the leading role of Enel X in the growing world of electric motorsports, extending and diversifying the range of high-power mobile charging solutions that Enel X develops for electric vehicle racing championship competitions.
Enel X will provide two types of fast DC charging stations specifically developed for the ETCR championship: a single 60 kW connector charger and a double connector charger with two 60 kW outputs that is able to deliver 120 kW when only one output is engaged. The chargers, which are integrated in customized wheeled boxes, will be completely movable and able to charge the ETCR vehicles in under one hour.
