The liberal (PNL) government came too late for ExxonMobil’s interests, which were already in the starting point, and their decision to exit Romania is not a joyful reason, said Finance Minister, Florin Cîţu.
Asked about the negotiations between ExxonMobil and Lukoil regarding the sale of the stake in the Neptun Deep block of the Black Sea, Cîţu replied that he does not have this information, but it is public knowledge that Exxon wants to leave Romania.
“I do not know if it is so. I do not have this information. (…) I did not participate in these negotiations and Exxon is a private company and we see what decision it can take. I hope there are still … Romgaz is still interested. We will see. The Exxon decision to leave Romania is a decision we do not enjoy. I understand that, unfortunately, this Government came in too late for Exxon’s interests and they were already on the verge of departure. That’s it. But I do not have an information regarding to whom it wants to sell. But it is public knowledge that they want to leave Romania,” the finance minister told a TV show, according to Agerpres.
