Florin Cîţu has folded his mandate as prime minister, few minutes before the vote of the Parliament that would have confirmed him in the position of head of government. President Klaus Iohannis took note of this decision and convoked the political parties to negotiations, once again.

The move of the Liberals comes in the context in which the Constitutional Court blocked the scenario of the anticipated elections, declaring the ordinance in this regard unconstitutional.

The chances of the Cîțu Government being invested were very high, with all parties except PSD announcing that they would vote it. Thus, PNL was in the situation of having a prime minister who had been appointed to be rejected, according to the logic of the anticipated elections plan, according to Hotnews.ro.

According to liberal sources, the president would again appoint Ludovic Orban, who will this time form a government most likely along PMP and USR.

“When at war, the commander never leaves the front line. He consulted with colleagues and made the decision to take this step. Basically, Ludovic Orban is mandated to gather the political class around him,” commented PNL leader Florin Roman.
