Investigations launched by the Competition Council before the crisis will be resumed and other new investigations will be launched, so it is very possible that the relevant authority will announce more fines by the end of the year, said on Thursday the President of the Competition Council, Bogdan Chiritoiu.
“During this period we did not launch investigations, because this would have involved inspections, which would have been difficult, if not impossible, during the period of social distancing, but expect that, once things relax, the things that would have started during this period would start. So I expect to see relatively many new investigations in the second half of the year and we will also complete the things that were scheduled to be completed this year and I would be very surprised not to issue fines. I can’t know exactly what conclusions we will reach, but, knowing what we have prepared, it is hard for me to believe that there will be no fines this year,” Bogdan Chiriţoiu stated, quoted by Agerpres.
He listed the areas in which the competition authority has ongoing investigations, including the area of gas distribution. “The second priority of this period is price monitoring,” he said.
