Environmental organizations have launched a new petition for public debate, entitled “Tomorrow is decided today.” The document consulted by energynomics.ro proposes to the government a new target for renewables and provides that green energy is the basis of economic recovery, by “moving to 100% green energy by 2040 at the latest.”

The document also proposes the “sustainable development in post-coal mining regions of Romania – the initiation of a package of public policies (concrete measures and timetables) to create opportunities for real economic growth for the mining regions affected by the transition.”

At the same time, it requires “stimulating energy democracy and energy communities – stimulating prosumers (small producers and consumers of energy from renewable sources), implementing national energy efficiency programs and legislative regulations related to the construction of new commercial buildings, as well as new homes to contain the obligation to install photovoltaic panels on the roof and their connection to the energy system to discharge surplus electricity.”

At the same time, in the field of waste, “responsible management of municipal and rural waste is required, including: closure of non-compliant landfills, selective collection and recycling, as well as hazardous waste management accordingly.”

The document is thus limited to the stipulation of declarative principles, without mentioning specific targets in the energy field, with the exception of the one mentioned above.

At the same time, the petition stipulates that “30% of ecosystems should benefit from protection by 2030, with areas of at least 10% strict protection” and 30% strict protection of forests “by restoring, protecting and financing the health of forest ecosystems.”
