Stroe, MET: The market will resettle, at least at the level of suppliers – only the strong will survive

The main concern for suppliers, both of electricity and natural gas, is to ensure the financing of measures aimed at helping the consumer, said Petre Stroe, General Manager of MET Romania Energy, according to financialintelligence.ro.

“At the moment, we are facing a decrease in consumption, which means that, for a serious supplier, energy and gas for one-year contracts have been purchased at pre-crisis prices. This means that they are now being sold at half price, due to under-consumption, especially electricity. Coupled with the fact that the deposits are full, because everyone wanted to prevent a gas crisis last year, it results in a financial burden that I hope all suppliers will be able to bear, although I doubt it. This will have a possible impact on the market. We can think about the future, but all the ideas and strategies to be implemented must be based on a competitive market. It is clear that the market will resettle, at least at the level of suppliers, and it is clear that only the strong will survive.”

One element with a negative impact is that there are also suppliers that remain uncovered and make purchases during contracts: “These suppliers obviously can offer current prices now, consumers obviously will try to end contracts signed before the crisis, the energy purchased will go in the market, this will create a chain that is likely to affect producers as well. Suppliers need to manage these issues, which could lead to a significant resettlement in the coming months.”
