OMV Petrom has published the Sustainability Report for 2019. The report details the objectives and achievements set out in the company’s Sustainability Strategy for 2019-2025, and has been prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standard, the best known international standard reporting for sustainability.
Christina Verchere, CEO of OMV Petrom: “The world is going through an unprecedented crisis that appeared at a time of profound transformation for the energy sector. In the context of the debates on climate change and the European Green Pact, we at OMV Petrom aim to become part of the solution for the energy transition. And we do this by fulfilling our mission of providing energy for Romania, in a cleaner and more sustainable way. Through our investments, we have reduced emissions from our operations by 22% in 2019, compared to 2010. Our Sustainability Report shows us the progress we have made to meet our 2025 targets while providing the energy we all need.”
“We have continued to invest in reducing GHG emissions, resulting in a 22% reduction from our 2010 benchmark. Last year we completed several large projects, which through the use of innovative and state-of-the-art technologies, have contributed to the improvement of the environmental footprint. These include the Poly-fuels unit from the Petrobrazi refinery and the gas hub from Hurezani in the Oltenia Production Area, with total investments of 115 million euro,” the report shows.
In 2019, the total amount of water extracted decreased by 55% compared to 2010 and 53% of the total waste generated was recycled.
