European Commission has presented to the Council proposals for decisions on granting financial support, amounting to 81.4 billion euros, under the SURE Instrument for 15 Member States, of which four billion euros for Romania, informs a press release of the community executive.
The SURE instrument is a key element of the EU’s comprehensive strategy to protect citizens and mitigate the very serious socio-economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. This is one of the three safety nets agreed by the European Council to protect workers, businesses and countries.
According to the Commission’s proposals, the Member States that would receive the largest financial support under the SURE Instrument are: Italy (27.4 billion euro), Spain (21.3 billion), Poland (11.2 billion), Belgium (7.8 billion) and Romania (4 billion euro), according to Agerpres.
The SURE instrument can provide total financial support of up to 100 billion euro to all member states. The proposals submitted to the Council regarding the decisions to grant financial support amount to 81.4 billion euros and target 15 Member States, including Romania. Portugal and Hungary have already submitted formal applications which are being evaluated. The Commission expects to present a proposal for support to Portugal and Hungary shortly. Member States that have not yet submitted formal applications still have the opportunity to do so.
