We continue to present the 2020 nominations for the Energynomics Awards, with the Corporate Social Responsibility category. Only one of the projects in the competition will be rewarded at the Gala on December 3th, but each of them deserve our respect and the widest promotion. We thank all the companies and personalities involved in this effort to draw the image of the Romanian energy industry in 2020 through its achievements!
FPPG – Gas from Romania (Gaz de România) project
Gas from Romania is a unique information and advocacy campaign on the benefits of natural gas. Specifically, it is an information platform for the general public to facilitate an understanding of the role that natural gas plays in our lives. The GDR platform has been active since 2017 and has reached 9 million people since its start.
Since 2019 and throughout 2020, the project’s efforts have focused on young people, especially students. Thus, two main actions were dedicated to them – the Energaz contest and the ‚Beyond generations’ webinars: Learning from experience.
CEZ powers its #energyforthebetter network
The Covid-19 pandemic exacerbates the risks faced by older people and health professionals. That is why CEZ actively involved in the fight against Covid-19, with donations of over 800.000 lei for medical equipment and food to support the vulnerable categories in 9 counties: Caras-Severin, Constanta, Arges, Dolj, Gorj, Mehedinti, Olt, Teleorman and Valcea. Other relevant contributions: 1. Over 20 tons of basic food, worth 180,500 lei, for 1,850 seniors; 2. 81,000 masks, 2,430 overalls for 9 county hospitals; 3. Purchasing a PCR type test apparatus and one thousand tests for the Targu Jiu County Emergency Hospital.
OMV Petrom – Reconfiguring the route in pandemic
As one of Romania’s biggest employers, OMV Petrom decided to reshape its social involvement plan for 2020; it treated health as an important pillar of rapid reaction, by supporting 17 first-line medical units. Mainly, the financial support (€1,3 million) was used for the purchase of medical equipment, medical supplies, masks, disinfectants, Covid-19 tests, eye protection equipment for medical staff, coffee machines and the distribution of 24.000 packages VIVA lunch box.
Electrica SA — Support during the pandemic
Electrica Group has been involved in the fight against the spread of the new coronavirus by supporting medical units in the “first line” and has contributed to the campaign implemented by the Romanian Red Cross for the acquisition of single-use health masks. At the same time, Electrica continued to support, during this difficult period, all the projects included in the grant program – “Electrica puts Romania in a different light”. The direct impact of the CSR projects carried out by the Electrica Group amounts to several tens of thousands of people, and the total value of the involvement in these projects, at group level, is about 500.000 euros. Electrica employees were also involved in various internal fundraising campaigns and participated in social responsibility actions as volunteers.
CEZ România – the Apprentice Electrician program
The Electrician Apprentice program aims to contribute to the training of future generations of electricians in southern Romania (counties of Arges, Dolj, Gorj, Teleorman, Olt and Valcea) by increasing the quality of training opportunities offered to young people who want a career in the energy sector. CEZ invested in a modern electric laboratory, within the premises of the newest high school added to the project, by providing educational materials, electrical equipment and teaching panels, as well as by offering 200 lei in performance scholarships for the first 5 students in each class, in addition to the aid received from the state. Almost 300 apprentices started the 2020-2021 school year with a new tablet offered by the company, to participate in the course classes, but also in the alternative learning activities organized under the project. Since September, 11 young people have started a six-month paid internship at Distribuție Oltenia.
