The local company Smart Diesel sold its fuel card business to the German DKV group. Subject to the approval of the Competition Council, the transaction was brokered by Radu and Associates, a company member of the companies of the Ernst & Young global group and part of EY Law group, with the involvement of Alexandru Medelean (Wise Way Advisors) and Florin Cerna (Brinkthink Management) as M&A lead advisors.

Business founded by Ovidiu Andrieș and Daniel Imbre, Smart Diesel has become one of the most important independent fuel companies in Romania. The company operates 36 gas stations in Romania and the SD card is accepted in over 1.800 gas stations abroad, offering the over 11.000 customers fuel cards, bulk fuel, road tax solutions and VAT recovery services.

According to Alexandru Medelean, Smart Diesel shareholders constitute “a group of innovative and discreet Romanian entrepreneurs who have used their complementary skills to develop one of the most dynamic and interesting businesses in Romania”.

“For our customers, the shareholders of the Smart Diesel Group, this is a key moment in the process of internationalization and consolidation of the business that will continue, to the benefit of the over 11.000 clients in their portfolio,” said Florin Cerna. According to him, the transaction “required the parallel management of inhomogeneous transaction areas, the preparation of operational and legal restructuring processes, the planning and management of a very complex competitive process”.
