Transelectrica SA has completed the construction works of the LST (Training Under High Voltage) training and testing ground in Sibiu, the first of its kind in Romania.

The polygon equipped for LST technologies is ready for practical training. It is part of a large investment of the Company, started in 2017, with a total value of 5.7 million lei, which involves the launch of the Center for Research and Development of Work Technologies under Voltage and Rapid Intervention in NES. All the facilities of the Sibiu Center will be put into use in the second part of 2022.

During a demonstration, the workers of SMART SA – Sibiu made a replacement of a 220 kV support insulator with two methods of reaching the potential, as well as an intervention at a connection clamp in the 400 kV substation. Also, a drone overflight of a portion of the 400 kV Overhead Power Line Sibiu Sud – Mintia was carried out, in an area with vegetation and a transport of materials by helicopter.

“Ensuring the maintenance of the electricity transmission network is one of our main priorities, and in this sense, the use of live work technologies has a major advantage, as it reduces congestion and downtime required to perform maintenance work in the traditional way. In other words, in the context of the maintenance of electrical networks, live work makes it possible to eliminate delays in carrying out maintenance, delays caused by the approval of withdrawals from the system of installations. This is the main goal that we intend to achieve by creating this center, and I emphasize that the full launch of this facility is a strategic priority of our company,” said Cătălin Niţu, the president of the Board of Directors of CNTEE Transelectrica SA.
