OMV Petrom works at a new 2030 strategy that will be revealed towards the end of this year, Franck Neel, executive board member, OMV Petrom & President of FPPG told the 7th edition of the Energy Strategy Summit, an event organized by Energynomics.
”In Q3-Q4 we will come to the market with the new strategy of OMV Petrom. First of all, we see the Black Sea development as very important for OMV Petrom”, Neel said.
There are a number of gas projects in the region. In Greece, a third green light was given for a gas power plant, while in Bulgaria there are two projects that involve switching from coal to gas, said Neel.
”Also in Greece, there are two CNG projects planned for next year. Looking at the future developments, in Greece one gas power plant has been already connected, and two others will be connected to the grid by 2023. We are already on the path of the energy transition, using gas a part of the fuel mix”, Neel said.
Romania has the opportunity to become the largest gas producer in Europe, once the Black Sea project gets the go-ahead sign – a very important project for the local security of supply.
”All of these projects, in Greece or Bulgaria, were developed by the private sector. In Romania, also, the main projects are developed by the private sector. The private sector in Romania is here also to help the government, the society, in this energy transition”, Neel added.
Gas is also important for the mobility process in transition. ”We have just received from ANRE an LNG supply license. We are the first company to have an LNG supply license… especially for truck mobility, impacting pollution. So CNG and LNG will also be part of the energy transition and OMV wants to be very active in this sector”, said Franck Neel.
”We are also looking at renewables, as a way to reduce our carbon intensity…and we see this ivory model between gas and solar, really powerful because both are producing mainly during peak hours and we have the flexibility of balancing between the gas power plants and to mitigate the clouds’ effect in the solar production”, he concluded.
