The president of the Concordia Employers’ Confederation, Steven van Groningen, believes that an increase in the minimum wage must be achieved through a clear and predictable formula, but without putting unbearable pressure on companies.
“Concordia wants, together with the social partners, to establish a schedule of minimum wage increases for the next 3-4 years, according to a clear formula, which will lead to an increase in employee income, but without putting unbearable pressure on companies. And a formula that is predictable. In our opinion, we can agree with the social partners a real fixed annual growth that is adjusted to the inflation rate and productivity. Concordia had constant discussions this year with the other nationally representative social partners to establish the growth schedule of up to 2024. We believe that we can work together, through dialogue, to come up with a formula that can improve the standard of living for those who are paid the minimum wage. At the same time, we would like to understand better the situation of the 1.6 million workers with the minimum wage in Romania, in order to have a more pertinent image,” van Groningen said at the meeting of the Tripartite National Committee for Social Dialogue.
He added that “together with the social partners, we will negotiate an increase that will compensate for the inflation rate and bring something extra in a formula that can be replicated in the coming years, to ensure that all those who work can he lives a decent life and the companies they work for remain competitive. ”
“The government is committed to providing us with the necessary data through the ministries of Labor and Finance,” the President of Concordia added.
