In the most recent post on his blog, Theodor Livinschi, the founder of his partnerg-i, refers to two of the price increases recently recorded on the energy markets: the wholesale price of electricity with delivery in 2022 recorded in the last 7 days, + 23%, up to the value of 760.00 lei / MWh – on Oct. 5, 2021) while that of natural gas with delivery in the first quarter of the same year evolved, in the same time interval, with +30%, up to 493.20 lei / MWh, a value also registered on Oct.
In a previous post, Theodor Livinschi presented the long-term developments of the energy commodities prices in Romania – A radiography of the impact of rising energy prices: Adapting purchasing through awareness (in RO).
Especially in the current context, energy consumers need to be aware of the risks they may pose, quantify the impact they can generate and think ahead about action plans to mitigate or manage them, defined to the level of “worst-case scenario”. “We do not intend to sound alarmist, but we just want to increase the degree of caution and preparation for less predictable situations, of consumers,” writes Theodor Livinschi.
Regardless of the contracting situation (open position or partially or totally closed position), the known size or behaviour of the contractual counterparty (supplier) or the type or value of the contracted price (guaranteed and invariable, unsecured or other), including in the most optimistic scenarios, we recommend performing a stress test (analysis or simulation designed to determine the ability of a particular company to cope with a crisis) of next year’s budget for energy, all so as not to be taken by surprise.
„The rate of positive results (which stands for ‘undesirable result’, in line with the medical vocabulary acquired in recent years) will probably be at the current level in Romania of the specific pandemic testing we are going through. Continuing in the note of the same analogy, the only difference is that the risks posed by energy costs next year cannot be prevented with an available vaccine, but perhaps only with the protection generated by a mask, given the local context of energy retail markets”, concludes Theodor Livinschi.
