Clear and transparent rules for OPCOM and the continuation of the support scheme for indirect carbon dioxide (ETS) emissions, in accordance with the European Commission’s Guide, are essential for the Romanian industry to get through this difficult period and survive the energy crisis, says Marian Nastase, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ALRO.

“There are two essential components for the Romanian industry to have a chance to go through this extremely turbulent period and to have a chance to survive – on the one hand clear and transparent rules for OPCOM, and on the other hand the continuation of the support scheme for indirect carbon dioxide (ETS) emissions in accordance with the European Commission’s Guide,” said Marian Năstase, quoted by financialintelligence.ro.

“Therefore, rules similar to those on stock exchanges or of metal exchanges are also needed on the electricity exchange. Their role would be to stop allowing traders to trade electricity if it is not in their possession and to penalize such behaviors that have severely distorted the energy market this year.

”Then, at the moment, Europe has entered a new phase of ETS legislation, valid for the period 2021-2030, for which the European Commission has drawn up a new Guide which entered into force on 1 January 2021. It is imperative that the Romanian authorities transpose it into local legislation and calculate the subsidies for indirect emissions due to industrial companies in the sectors approved by the European Commission as having a high risk of relocation,” he added.
