Energy price crisis could have been at least diminished if there it would have been a communication between decision makers and the business environment, said Florin Dănescu, president of the Romanian Banks Association (ARB).

“If we would have listened to the business environment before making decisions, we probably wouldn’t have had so many surprises from an economic perspective. This energy price crisis could have been at least mitigated if this communication had been between European decision-makers or from wherever and the business environment. The banking industry would certainly have been able to draw certain signals, to make certain analyzes, to transmit materials that it already had, if we are talking about financial intermediation, about European funds, I am a witness that we have such matyerials for more than seven years, which we are trying to promote everywhere. There is a lack of science in how to use those who know and those who do, those who are at the grass level.

”At present, we, as a banking industry, are in an advantageous position now compared to the past. There is a much improved relationship of trust between us and the environment made up of either our customers or decision makers who make things move. We hope that, perhaps now, we have a better route in conveying our proposals and ideas. We are entering a situation of very good stability, but from the perspective of using the resources we have, we expect the economy to lend more, to have a higher share when we refer to SMEs,” Dănescu said during the Banking Forum , according to Agerpres.

The head of the ARB warned that structural reforms have always been abandoned amid various crises.

“When we talk about populism, we understand that decisions are becoming more important than economic resources. Today we are going through a crisis that is practically the price of this behavior. We are talking 99% about politics and 1% about economics. When the economy alerts you in a crisis in which everyone pays, suddenly we avoid and say what others should do. Structural reforms have always been abandoned because there have been various crises, sometimes economic, sometimes of a different nature. The economy has not been a priority so far, we have to accept this… we are attentive, we want to help,” said Florin Dănescu.
