Romanians will not pay more than in December 2020 for energy bills due to the price cap and the bill compensation scheme, announced the interim Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu.

The minister’s reaction comes after the Chamber of Deputies adopted, on Wednesday, as a decision-making body, the project for approving the Emergency Ordinance on compensating the increase in energy prices, establishing for the period November 1, 2021 – March 31, 2022 a support scheme for bills for electricity and natural gas for domestic customers, SMEs, individual medical practices and other liberal professions, hospitals, educational institutions, churches, NGOs.

“Romanians will not pay more than in December 2020 for energy bills! This is due to the price cap and the energy bill compensation scheme, which will benefit 70% of Romanians, measures that apply between November 2021 – March 2022! The law was approved today! I want to thank my parliamentary colleagues for their work and we managed to come up with concrete measures to help Romanians get through this winter,” the minister wrote on his Facebook page.

The capped prices, 0.37 lei KWh for natural gas and 1 lei KWh for electricity, are the final prices that can be invoiced by suppliers to those who benefit from the provisions regarding capping, Popescu explained, according to Agerpres.

On the other hand, domestic customers will benefit from the electric bill compensation scheme. Thus, the quantities of energy for which compensation is granted are 300 kwh / month – 1500 kWh of electricity for the entire period (November 2021 – March 2022) and the equivalent in kWh of 1000 m3 of natural gas also for the entire period.

The Minister stressed, in the context, that a deviation in favor of the beneficiary of the compensation of a maximum of 10% is accepted.
