Linde Gas has very important production facilities in Romania as well, and the future of hydrogen will be blue and only then green, said Oliver Pfann, President for Eastern Europe and the Middle East, Linde Gas, at the Romanian International Gas Conference 2021, an event organized by the Petroleum and Gas Employers’ Federation, with the support of the Energy Policy Group.
“For us, it doesn’t matter if the customer wants gray, blue or green hydrogen, but of course the future will be blue and then green. Customers interested in blue hydrogen are those with significant gas resources, and it is hard to believe that this country will leave those resources in the ground. Although we believe that the future belongs to green hydrogen, and most of Europe is in a hurry to adopt it, for the near future blue hydrogen will most likely dominate the market – green hydrogen will not be available so soon,” he added.
Oliver Pfann also explained that blue hydrogen already has a well-developed gas infrastructure, and can produce about 2 million tons a year that can be easily transported.
“Countries will have to implement CCS systems and we believe that the costs for CCS will be 30-35 to 80 USD/ tonne, and if we compare that with the carbon tax of about 100 USD/ tonne of carbon, hydrogen would be viable economically in Europe,” he added.
Linde has 24 MW green hydrogen production facilities. “We see a lot of projects, but it’s hard to believe that they will be done too soon. We have our own electrolytic system, but it is still far from an industrial-scale production,” said Oliver Pfann.
