Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that it was unfair for Moscow to be blamed for record prices for natural gas in Europe, given that, the Kremlin leader says, Russian giant Gazprom is fulfilling all its delivery obligations, Reuters reports.
Putin insisted at his traditional annual press conference, broadcast live on television, that Gazprom had to fulfill its obligations under the terms of the long-term agreements before delivering gas to spot markets, and the countries which have concluded long-term contracts – as in the case of Germany – now enjoy much lower prices and may even sell gas at a profit to their neighbors, according to Agerpres.
Europe has created its own gas problems and should solve them on its own, Putin insisted, adding that he suspects some of the Russian gas transported to Germany has finally been resold to Ukraine.
