The “Energy in Childhood Schools” project continued this year as well, with E.ON’s concern being to provide better study conditions for students and teachers through efficient lighting that would allow not only substantial reductions in electricity consumption, but also the reduction of the carbon footprint.
Thus, in 2021, the lighting system was replaced in eight schools and three kindergartens in the counties located in the company’s area of activity, the new lighting system being a modern one, based on LED technology.
Since 2015, since the beginning of the project “Energy in Childhood Schools”, through the involvement of E.ON in improving the educational infrastructure, better conditions for study have been created and, in the long run, significant savings have been achieved in terms of energy consumption and more importantly, CO2 emissions have been reduced, thus contributing to a greener future.
So far, the lighting system has been changed in 71 schools, and the direct beneficiaries of the project are about 45,000 students and teachers, the value of the investment being of about 3.8 million euro.
At the same time, CO2 emissions from electricity alone have been reduced by 600 tonnes a year. Therefore, in just one year, at an average consumption of six hours a day, the lighting systems installed by E.ON led to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, the equivalent of the emissions produced by about 160 Romanians in one year.
