The Ministry of Energy has launched a public consultation on the new European strategy on international energy engagement, according to an announcement posted on the institution’s website.

The Ministry of Energy is submitting the draft of the new EU strategy on the international commitment in the field of energy to public consultation in order to collect, from stakeholders, proposals, suggestions and recommended opinions on this document.

The Ministry expects this feedback from all stakeholders by January 31, 2022.

The adoption of this strategy is expected for the first half of this year, according to Agerpres.

The European Union, as a signatory to the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, is firmly committed to helping limit global warming to a maximum of two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. To meet this commitment, the EU has drawn up the European Green Deal, which aims to make Europe a first climate-neutral continent by 2050.

In this regard, the Union has approved European Climate Law to make these political commitments a legal obligation. It also includes a binding and more ambitious European target for a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, according to ministry officials.

The global energy context has undergone major changes over the last decade, shaped by the dynamics of supply and demand in global markets, innovations in the field of green energy, as well as new global goals and ambitions in the fight against climate change. These are just a few examples of the need for a review of the European Union’s external energy policy.

In this regard, the European Commission presented the new European strategy on international energy engagement, which will explore new opportunities to implement a clean energy system, promote energy efficiency and safe and sustainable technologies, and ensure a smooth transition.
