The Minister of Public Finance, Adrian Câciu, hopes that at the beginning of March the Government will have prepared a package of measures aimed at reducing inflation, so that its percentage will not reach double digits. He says the effects and causes must be taken in equal measure into account, according to News.ro.

On Thursday, BNR Deputy Governor Cristian Popa said that inflation will probably exceed 10% in April this year, or when the compensation and capping measures will expire, according to Agerpres.

“We are in talks, in two weeks, I think, at the latest, we will come up with a plan of measures at Executive level, we will see each other next week. There are a number of solutions on the table, you know, I’m not giving you any examples. All I can tell you is that I am doing absolutely everything related to the Ministry of Finance to come up with measures that on the one hand will reduce the effects, so that we will no longer have effects in the market regarding higher prices (…) and to restructure the causes that led to this chain inflation. The NBR made an assessment that I consider correct, because, as long as you did not come up with a package of measures, you make an analysis of what exists, which expires on April 1. We will have, I hope, at the beginning of March, already, the package of measures that the Executive should take to the area of politics and come very, very soon, with a plan of measures, it will not be a single measure, this I can tell you for sure, because the measures must be in a package that aims at effects, but also causes,” the Minister of Public Finance stated on Friday, in a press conference, answering some questions related to the value of inflation.

The Minister mentioned that Romania needs investments in energy and must produce energy, but, when asked, he avoided saying whether the reduction of VAT on energy should be taken into account.

He added that “all solutions are on the table” and that there will be a “mix of measures” to resolve this situation.
