Ukraine’s nuclear power plants are safe and do not exceed radiation levels, according to a statement from the National Commission for the Control of Nuclear Activities (CNCAN).
“According to the information received from the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine, on 15.03.2022, at 17:45, Romanian time, the connection of the Chernobyl site with the national power supply network was restored, and the power supply from emergency diesel generators is no longer necessary,” state the CNCAN officials.
“Currently, all nuclear facilities in Ukraine are operational and safe and there is no danger to the environment or the population. At the same time, we note that the measurements carried out at national level confirm normal values of the radiation level and no exceedances are reported at the level of the Ukrainian territory,” say the representatives of the Commission.
CNCAN, through the Operational Center for Emergency Situations, constantly monitors the evolution of the situation from the point of view of radiological monitoring.
“In Romania, the level of radiation is constantly monitored through the National Network for Environmental Radioactivity Surveillance (RNSRM), within the National Agency for Environmental Protection (ANPM). Specialists from the National Reference Laboratory for Radioactivity verify the monitored data 24/7 and transmit it to the International Atomic Energy Agency, so as to ensure prompt information of national and international decision-makers, as well as the population,” the release reads.
