The Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) gas interconnector will be inaugurated on Friday, July 8, says Energy Minister Virgil Popescu. Greek Energy Minister confirmed the information, according to Reuters.
“Today I attended, together with the Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciuca, the working meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the Minister of Energy Kostas Skrekas. I welcome the announcement by the Greek Prime Minister to update our cooperation in the energy field, given that Greece will become a natural gas transmission hub, which will also cover Romania’s needs.
“The Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector will be inaugurated tomorrow, and this is very good news for our country as well, from the perspective of diversifying routes and supply sources. Following today’s talks, we will sign a memorandum with my counterpart Kostas Skrekas to ensure the continuation of our joint energy and medium-term projects. The cooperation between Romania and Greece in the field of energy is a strong one,” wrote Popescu, on Facebook.
At the same time, the Greek Minister of Energy said that the IGB has been completed and can start commercial operations this month, according to Reuters.
The Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) interconnector, which has faced several administrative hurdles in recent years, is important for Bulgaria’s energy security, which has run out of Russian gas after refusing to pay in rubles, rejecting Moscow’s request.
