The Free Trade Union of Romgaz sent a petition to the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, to the Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca and to the Minister of Energy, Virgil Popescu, in which it reports the critical situation of the employees of the National Gas Company Romgaz, caused by the violation of rights by the institution’s management and board members, according to Agerpres.
The union points out that, since the end of 2020, the institution has refused to provide medical assistance to employees with serious health problems, although the Collective Bargaining Agreement concluded at the unit level provides that they are granted and approved by the Board of Directors.
This is given that a large number of employees work in special and difficult working conditions.
“Instead of complying with the provisions of the law of the counterparties, in 2021 and 2022 the company’s management and the members of the Board of Directors preferred to grant, in exchange for health benefits, all kinds of sponsorships to NGOs and individuals. We consider that this behavior represents a lack of respect and compassion towards employees, both from the Board of Directors and also from the company’s management, demonstrates the inability of the current managers to lead a strategic institution of the Romanian state,” the release reads.
Consequently, the Free Trade Union of Romgaz requests the verification of the activity and the dismissal of the members of the Board of Directors who are guilty of violating the collective labour contract (CCM) provisions by not granting aid in case of illness for a year and a half, during which some demanding employees died.
