Regulating the price of gas and energy production would endanger the Neptun Deep project, claims Cristina Prună, USR deputy and vice-president of the Industry Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, in a post on her social media page.
PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu said during the week that PSD wants to discuss in coalition the regulation of the energy market, at least for the domestic consumer.
“That liberalization of energy prices was stupid, done not because it wasn’t necessary, but you had to take, think about certain steps, think such a phenomenon. There are 2-3 options that we will discuss in the coalition, we cannot allocate 3% of GDP to speculation, because it is an energy speculation, that is, we cannot allocate the health budget or the education budget,” said Ciolacu.
Cristina Prună says, however, that investors will not want to take huge risks at a regulated price.
“The regulation sounds simple, nice and populist. But let’s see what the consequences will be. The adoption of this nonsense will mean that we say Goodbye to the Black Sea gas, and Romgaz will throw 1 billion euros out in the water rapids by acquiring the Neptun Deep stake from Exxon. No one will want to take huge risks at a regulated price. We saw this happening before, in 2018. All this time, when we have gas under our noses and make fun of it, Germany, desperate to bring gas, is looking to build a new gas pipeline to the Iberian peninsula,” Cristina Prună wrote on Facebook.
“The regulated price also means that the state producers of electricity (Hidroelectrica, Nuclearelectrica, etc.), in order to complete their supply of energy for their customer portfolio, will be forced to buy energy at colossal prices from the market and sell it at regulated price. At a substantial loss, of course. Then, if domestic energy is secured at a regulated price, the suppliers which have the purchase contracts with the producers can safely export it outside the borders. Marcel Ciolacu, Iulian Iancu and the patriots behind the scenes basically propose to subsidize Hungary’s economy!,” said the USR MP.
“During this time, PNL proposes through the voice of Minister Virgil Popescu to over-tax suppliers’ profits, this after he also sent to Parliament the GEO that provides for the regulation of these profits. He basically admits that he has written a law so badly that it can be easily circumvented…,” she added.
