While in Bucharest USR mimes concern for the Romanian energy sector, in Strasbourg, next week the RED 3 Renewables Directive will be put to the vote together with two amendments unfavorable to hydro energy in Romania, and their most active supporter is Nicolae Ștefănuță (n.r. MEP of USR), said Minister Virgil Popescu, during the debate on the USR motion aiming for his impeachment.
“The situation is so dramatic that we received messages from representatives in the European Parliament of another allied country, to make sure that the petty interests of the USR do not endanger the entire European energy architecture. So, in Brussels, those elected on the USR lists are sabotaging Romania! Let’s see what they do in Romania too,” Popescu said, quoted by Financialintelligence.ro.
“It’s the same game they’ve always played: they sabotaged the hydro investments in Valea Jiului, because Dacian Cioloș needed many protected areas, they sabotaged the Roșia Quarry because it was an internal campaign in the midst of an energy crisis, and now they’re sabotaging Romania because Mr. Cioloș is arguing with Mr. Drula. You have to be unconscious to sabotage coal production this winter,” Popescu also said.
