The US will increase gas deliveries to Europe and expand partnership with Romania in the energy field, said Don Graves, deputy secretary of the Department of Commerce of the United States of America, according to Agerpres.

“We will do everything we can to ensure that we protect economic security and energy for Europe, including for this part of Europe, southern and eastern Europe. It is very important to stand together as partners. That’s why the United States joined the EU-US Energy Council, to find specific ways to successfully overcome this crisis created by Russia and not by anyone else. It is important to do two things. The first: to make the transition as quickly as we can to renewables, we know that it is something that the EU and the EU member states are already doing on their own and with our help, but also to find solutions to get through the next months, which could be more difficult, because of the high prices and because of the shortage of supply,” said Don Graves.

“The United States is doing everything it can to identify additional sources of energy, including oil and gas, but we also need to move as quickly as possible to new technologies, such as these small modular reactors, which we believe are the optimal solution both in the medium term, as well as in the long term for countries like Romania and for other European countries,” he added.

At the same time, he said that the NuScale technology is viable, and the US is looking to help Romania in the development of renewable projects and in the nuclear field.

“We are looking at any opportunity to expand partnership in terms of energy and help Romania make this transition, so a series of technical solutions, including the nuclear, solar, wind sector. We know that it is a transition that will take place over time and we want it to be a transition to protect Romania’s security and economic viability,” he said.

“The president (Joe Biden – n.r.) has already spoken with the European leaders, with the presidents and heads of government of the European states and has made a commitment to increase the quantities of LNG. At the same time, we are working with our partners around the world to find alternative sources of oil and gas. We have already done it and we believe we will continue to find new sources of energy to help Europe, following this unwanted invasion. We would not have been in this situation without Vladimir Putin. So we will do everything we can – and the rest of the world is working with us – to help Europe have everything it needs to get through this winter,” added the US deputy secretary.
