The Regional Operational Program (POR) 2021-2027 for the North-East region is to be approved by the European Commission (EC) in October or November 2022 and mainly targets investments in the area of energy efficiency, said Dorin Bâcu, an expert in the Agency of Regional Development (ADR) North East.

“The 2021-2017 program will focus on the climate, on sustainability projects and support sustainable development through green public procurement. In the first place will be energy efficiency, which until now has not been an essential criterion. Also, the research-development-innovation segment will have an important place in this financing program, especially since the energy field must play an essential role, as it happens in developed countries”, said Bâcu, at the conference “Sustainable Communities – Iasi”, organized by Energynomics and SmartiCity.

Through the POR 2021-2027, the amount of 137 million euros will be available for large enterprises that carry out sustainability and energy efficiency projects.

Also, the sum of 275 million euros will be allocated for projects aimed at reducing CO2 emissions and increasing energy efficiency in the residential sector. The amount of 223 million euros will be directed to energy efficiency projects of public buildings, and the amount of 37 million euros will be available to renovate the housing stock of residential buildings.

The objective of this program is to reduce energy consumption by at least 60% in public buildings, respectively to decrease energy consumption by 40% in residential buildings.

The POR 2021-2027 for the North-East region will also include funding for the modernization of heat and hot water installations, energy management, ecological transport, electric bus charging stations, traffic management, the construction of bicycle paths, efficient public lighting, the development non-motorized public transport systems and the development of public passenger transport.

“The first winning projects will be announced, in the most optimistic scenario, in the summer of 2023”, Bâcu also said.

The conference “Sustainable Communities – Iasi” was organized by Energynomics and SmartiCity with the support of our partners: ABB, Eaton Electric, Enel X, ENGIE Romania, Flash Lighting Services, Geminox, REI Grup.
