Investments in energy efficiency are necessary to reduce energy consumption and to achieve the objectives assumed by Romania toward the European Commission, says Oana Ozmen, secretary of the Commission for Industries and Services in the Chamber of Deputies.

“If we want low-cost energy bills, it’s important to make these investments now. We must inform the citizens how they can access the funds intended for them”, said Ozmen, during the conference “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Cluj-Napoca”, organized by Energynomics.

At the beginning of the current parliamentary session, the legislative project aimed at settling some expenses that were previously ineligible, namely the thermal insulation of unheated bridges of buildings, the replacement of mechanisms or other technical components of elevators in residential buildings, was voted.

The Commission for Industries and Services aims to have a constructive dialogue with specialists in the field and to intervene in the updating of the legislation regarding the energy performance of public and residential buildings, but it is also decisive for the industrial area.

Ozmen added that proof of the Commission’s interest in this field is the 500 million euro financing line that the government opened at the beginning of this parliamentary session. “We have a target that by 2030, 13% of buildings will already have a green component. At the beginning of 2021, a European directive in this regard became mandatory. We consider that the building materials industry is going through a difficult period, it is important to support this sector from the perspective of nZEB standards”, added Ozmen.

She added that Romania has assumed these targets, and each new step will be taken in the direction of building energy efficiency. In the case of historical buildings, interventions will be carried out differently, with the involvement of “specialists in the field”.

The “Digitalization and Energy Efficiency – Cluj-Napoca” conference was organized by Energynomics with the support of its partners: Eaton Electric, Elgeka-Ferfelis Romania, Enel X, EnergoBit, Kawasaki Gas Turbine Europe, MET Energy Romania, REI Group, Photomate, Volt, Wiren.
