Average daily gas exports of the Russian group Gazprom via pipelines to Europe increased by 17% in the first half of February, compared to January, thanks to deliveries made via Turkey, Reuters calculations show.

Given that Russian gas is no longer delivered through the Yamal-Europe and Nord Stream pipelines, the only routes through which Russian gas is delivered to Europe are through Ukraine and the Turkstream pipeline, which crosses the Black Sea, according to Agerpres.

According to data provided by the European Network of Natural Gas Transmission System Operators (ENTSOG), in the first 15 days of February, the average daily gas deliveries of the Russian group Gazprom to Europe rose to 67.8 million cubic meters, compared to of an average of 58.1 million cubic meters per day in January. Reuters calculations show that gas exports through pipelines to Europe in the first half of February reached a total of one billion cubic meters.

Gazprom, which previously published data on its exports twice a month, stopped publishing such data from the beginning of 2023.

Russia and Turkey officially launched the TurkStream gas pipeline, with a capacity of 31.5 billion cubic meters per year, in January 2020. This pipeline transports Russian natural gas to southern European countries via the Black Sea and Turkey.

According to Reuters calculations, Gazprom’s deliveries to the European Union via the TurkStream pipeline and Ukraine totaled 1.02 billion cubic meters in the first 15 days of February, of which approximately 560 million cubic meters, or 37.3 million cubic meters per day, were sent via the TurkStream pipeline. The transit of Russian gas through Ukraine in the first 15 days of February amounted to 458 million cubic meters, or an average of 30.5 million cubic meters per day.

Comparatively, in December last year, exports to Europe via these two routes amounted to 2.5 billion cubic meters, of which 1.2 billion cubic meters, or 39.6 million cubic meters per day, were delivered via Turkey. In January, however, deliveries fell by almost 30% to 1.8 billion cubic meters, while in the first 15 days of January, Gazprom’s exports to Europe amounted to 955 million cubic meters.
