Olimpia Parking, the largest private car park serving the Henri Coandă International Airport in Bucharest, is the first parking service in Romania to implement the latest generation ABB technology for building automation and electric vehicle charging. Olimpia Parking offers its customers a series of facilities for safe, convenient and easy parking, alongside implemented ABB solutions that improve user experience and the company’s environmental credentials.
The installation of the latest generation ABB E-mobility charging technology turns Olimpia Parking into the first parking lot in Romania capable of offering premium conditions for electric and hybrid cars. ABB E-mobilty supplied 36 Terra AC 22kW charging stations and a Terra 94 CJ 90kW DC fast charging station, all benefiting from cloud connectivity via ABB ChargerSync which enables remote configuration, monitoring, load management and software updates, thereby minimizing the need for on-site intervention and maximizing uptime and efficiency.
The installation of the equipment, carried out in close collaboration with IOT Solutions company, currently gives Olimpia Parking the largest electric vehicle charging capacity installed in a single location in Romania.
Olimpia Parking offers up to 1,500 parking spaces and benefits from intelligent lighting thanks to ABB’s ABB i-bus KNX building automation system. Consisting of more than 126 sensors connected to a network of LED lamps, the system ensures adequate power management and optimal light intensity in all areas.
To achieve such precision 32 dimmable modules with 8 channels each for 1-10V control were installed, together with motion sensors, 4 logic controllers and 5 ABB i-bus KNX feeders. The adoption of the ABB i-bus KNX solution led to a reduction in electricity consumption of more than 80% compared to the original classic design.
“We chose ABB’s electric vehicle charging solutions because they come fully equipped with all integrated protection systems for short circuit, overvoltage, loss of earth connection, etc. They can be connected by cable but also via Wi-Fi to the Internet, they have integrated Bluetooth connection, but also integrated GSM, RFID control. In addition, the software provided by ABB perfectly matches our requirements. With ABB charging stations you can balance the load in the network and achieve very good user management,” said Adrian Micu, General Manager of IOT Solutions.
“We are happy to offer Olimpia Parking state-of-the-art ABB solutions for building automation and electric vehicle charging. Our goal is to provide customers and end-users with the best experience in terms of comfort and safety, and we consider this project to be an important step towards smart cities and sustainable transportation in the country,” added Erhan Savas, Commercial Vice President, Electrification at ABB Romania.
ABB has unrivaled expertise in developing sustainable transport solutions for private and public transport, company fleets, commercial and heavy vehicles. ABB entered the electric mobility market in 2010 and today has sold over 1 million electric vehicle chargers in over 85 markets; over 50,000 direct current (DC) fast chargers and over 1 million alternating current (AC) chargers, including those sold through Chargedot.
ABB Terra DC fast chargers, like the one installed at Olimpia Parking, are designed for fast and convenient charging of all models of electric vehicles, including those equipped with high-voltage battery systems. The compact size of the Terra charger makes it perfect for public use as well as for fleets, while its modular design allows an increase in charging power up to 180 kW. Terra DC is suitable for all EV charging standards and battery voltages on the market.
ABB offers its customers in Romania a wide range of charging solutions for electric vehicles, starting from 3.7 kW chargers, up to 600 kW fast chargers, both for electric cars and for fast charging of electric buses and trucks.
