Romania has certain targets to achieve that go in the direction of the decarbonization of the energy sector in Romania, and this decarbonization process started before the onset of this energy crisis, stated, on Thursday, in a specialized conference, Dan-Dragoş Drăgan, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy.
He emphasized that, as far as green hydrogen is concerned, Romania has strategies put up for public debate in the coming weeks.
“In the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, we have certain targets to meet that go in the direction of the decarbonization of the energy sector in Romania. We started this journey of the decarbonization process before the onset of this energy crisis and we stick to the promises we made. We started to offer more incentives and tools to market participants to increase their capacities and facilities in the energy sector. Also as part of the strategy, we are trying to introduce in all related technologies – and here we are talking about nuclear technology, in which we have extensive expertise – and we want to develop the Units 3 and 4 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant,” said Dan-Dragoş Drăgan, according to Agerpres.
The Secretary of State specified that Romania will be among the first countries in Europe “to introduce those small size reactors.”
“We expect that in the coming years we will have the first reactors and be among the first countries to launch this technology. We observe that a transition to an energy neutral footprint is already being achieved by 2025. We want to recover our position as an energy security provider in Europe Central and Eastern. It’s also important to strengthen the infrastructure because without it we won’t be able to have these facilities, these alternative energy resources that we can connect to the general grid. Right here we need a renewed distribution network, and the national transmission network also plays an essential role. We have concluded contracts with the related companies to be able to put this network into operation. (…) I forgot to mention that we are moving fast in terms of hydrogen green – we have strategies put up for public debate during the coming weeks,” added Dan-Dragoş Drăgan.
