OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy company in South-Eastern Europe, announces the start of the general overhaul of the Petrobrazi refinery. The review will take place over the course of six weeks, during which the refinery’s activity will be stopped. The company allocated approximately 400 million lei for this revision.

“An overhaul is a major event in the refinery’s activity and requires a complex planning and risk management process. The overhaul will total over 2 million hours of operations; more than 20 modernization projects and tens of thousands of checks and technical inspections of equipment and installations are planned. The preparation of this overhaul took two years and is mandatory to ensure the smooth operation of the refinery in safe conditions. This planning also took into account the provision of fuel stocks necessary for continuity in the supply of the market in Romania and the region,” said Radu Căprău, member of the OMV Petrom Directorate, responsible for the Refining and Marketing activity.

About 25 main contracting companies will be involved in the revision, of which 80% are Romanian companies. The review will be carried out with the help of approximately 6,000 people and will include technical expertise on more than 600 pieces of equipment, checks on more than 1,400 safety valves, pressure tests on approximately 6,000 pipes, as well as checks on electrical and automation equipment.

In parallel with the overhaul, modernization works will be carried out at several installations within the refinery, such as the project to replace the coking chambers. The last overhaul took place in 2018, and the next overhaul is planned for 2028.

OMV Petrom invested, between 2004 and 2022, approximately 2 billion euros in the Petrobrazi refinery, a third of this amount being intended to reduce the environmental impact.
