The project of the cable that will connect the Caspian Zone to Europe shows that Romania is ready to prove that it is a pillar of stability in the area and sits at the table of important players in the energy sector, said George-Sergiu Niculescu, the president of the National Regulatory Authority in Energy (ANRE).

According to the Agreement signed in Bucharest on December 17, 2022, the cable that will connect the Caspian Zone to Europe will cross Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary.

“It is a very important project and is part of the series of projects that show that Romania is ready to prove that it is a pillar of stability in the area – and is sitting at the table of important players in the energy sector. Practically, this corridor is not possible without Romania. The merit belongs to my colleagues from the Ministry of Energy for this memorandum that was signed on December 17 in Cotroceni. I only coordinated the team that worked, but the full credit goes to the professionals in the ministry. To integrate the wishes of four states into an agreement is not a not an easy task. Everyone must be very attentive to the details,” said George-Sergiu Niculescu, according to Agerpres.

He emphasized that the project is a very important one. Thus, “quantities, important volumes of energy will be able to reach from the Caspian Zone towards Europe, through Romania.”

“Also, it is very important that through this infrastructure project we will be able to accommodate the new investments that will be made in the Black Sea offshore wind. Practically, this electricity transport infrastructure will be able to take over the amounts of energy that are they will produce when the law is ready – and investments will come to this area. This project is an important one and already has potential, so Bulgaria also wants to be integrated into this project. This shows us that the project is well thought out .(…) I hope that this project, following the completion of the pre-feasibility study, will take shape as quickly as possible,” added the head of ANRE.

Regarding financing, the president of ANRE believes that all financing possibilities should be taken into account.
