The Competition Council authorized the operation by which Oltenia Energy Complex and Alro intend to jointly create a company to build a natural gas combined cycle power plant (CCGT) in Ișalnița, in Dolj county, the institution announces.

Complexul Energetic Oltenia S.A., owned by the Romanian state, operates in the field of mining, electricity production based on fossil fuels and the supply of thermal energy at the local level.

Alro S.A. is a company specialized in primary and processed aluminum production, with operations in Romania, China and Sierra Leone. The company has an aluminum production unit in Slatina and also owns the alumina plant Alum S.A. from Tulcea.

“Following the analysis, the Competition Council found that this operation does not raise significant obstacles to effective competition on the Romanian market or on a substantial part of it and that there are no serious doubts regarding its compatibility with a normal competitive environment,” say officials of the Competition Council.
