New car registrations increased in Romania by 25.4%, in the first half (H1) of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year, and “green” cars registered a jump of 34.5% and a sales market share of 21.9%, reveals the statistics of the Automobile Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA).
According to the data published on Monday, depending on the type of fuel of the registered cars, in the analyzed period, gasoline engines registered a decrease of 0.2% compared to the share held in the similar period from 2022, up to a share of 64.9%. At the same time, cars equipped with diesel engines registered a decrease of 1.3%, from year to year, and have a share of 13.2% of the total, according to Agerpres.
In the category of “electrified” cars, the market share reached, after the first six months of the current year, at 21.9%, over the 8.7% share held by diesel engines.
According to the cited source, fully electric cars have a 9.6% share of the market, and purchases in this category have increased considerably (+34.5%), compared to the first semester of 2022. In this context, an important increase is registered of 100% electric (+57%) and plug-in hybrid (+46.9%) cars.
From January to the end of June 2023, Dacia Spring leads the top five best-selling electric cars – with 3,266 units and an increase of 36.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. In the following places are: Tesla Model Y – with 637 units and an increase of eleven times, Renault Megane (483 units, plus 120 times), Tesla Model 3 (406 units, +45.5%) and Volkswagen e-UP! (323 units, +54.5%).
In the segment of Plug-in cars, Ford Kuga is in the first position with 409 units and a jump of 96.6% compared to the first half of 2022, followed by Mercedes-Benz GLE (171 units, +19.6%), Renault Captur (168 units, +41.2%), Mazda CX-60 (161 units, no registrations in 2022) and Hyundai Tucson (149 units, +23.1%).
At the same time, hybrid cars, without recharging from external sources, have the first place in the Top 3: Toyota Corolla – with 1,041 units, down 13.5% compared to 2022, Toyota C-HR (865 units, – 12.4%) and Toyota Yaris Cross (795 units, +145.4%).
APIA statistics highlight the fact that, in the first six months of the current year, most car purchases were made by legal entities (58%), and the difference of 42% belongs to individuals.
