Ursus Breweries and Enery announce the signing of a multi-year virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA), which provides renewable energy needed for the production of the local breweries, according to a press release.

Ursus Breweries, part of the Asahi group, will take over the production of energy from a newly built photovoltaic park, with a capacity of over 50 MWp, located in Romania. “The agreement supports Asahi Europe & International in our wider sustainability ambition to be carbon neutral across all European breweries by 2030,” the statement added.

“This latest renewable energy supply agreement for our breweries in Romania marks another important step forward and a significant commitment towards our Legacy 2030 goal of becoming carbon neutral across all our breweries by 2030 and throughout our wider supply chain by 2050. Now more than ever, and together with our partners, we are committed to creating meaningful connections with people and the planet,” said Paolo Lanzarotti, CEO of Asahi Europe & International.

Asahi Europe & International is the international subsidiary of Asahi Group Holdings, a global beverage and food company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Japan. In Europe, the group manages 19 production units in 8 countries. In Romania, the group owns four breweries, in Timisoara, Brasov, Buzau and Cluj-Napoca.

Enery is a green energy provider that currently generates over 200 GWh of electricity operating a capacity of 280 MW. The company’s plans include more than 7 GW worth of projects under development.
